Since 1974, Hardhats Toastmasters has been a community that supports ordinary men and women from all walks of life, just like you, in finding their voices, building confidence, and exploring and developing their leadership potential. Starting with a membership mostly consisting of workers in San Diego’s defense industry over 50 years ago, we have grown into an international club with members from around the world.
We have members who have been part of our community for a month, a year, or decades. Each of us was at least a little nervous when we attended our first meeting. We all found a warm, welcoming group ready to support us on our journey to becoming the best communicators and leaders we can be. And now, WE are ready to welcome you with open arms and support YOU on your journey!
Our meetings are positive, fun-filled, supportive, and educational. You will hear two or three prepared speeches, with topics chosen by members working to improve their communication skills. Each speech is evaluated in a constructive, balanced, and motivational manner to help each member on their communication journey. Our meetings also include impromptu speaking practice, with questions that range from profound to thought-provoking to hilarious.
We look forward to your attending your first meeting. Many of us, initially hesitant communicators and leaders, have become accomplished speakers and contributors in our workplaces, wider communities, and societies. We learned to speak, listen, evaluate, mentor, coach, run meetings, and much more! We also networked and made friends.
